Motor vehicle registration - breakdown of marriage and other relationships
Duty is payable on an application to register a motor vehicle in New South Wales, under section 261 of the Duties Act 1997.
However, where the application to transfer the registration is made as a result of a breakdown of a marriage, defacto relationship or domestic relationship, provided the vehicle was matrimonial or partnership property at the time the application is made, exemption from duty may apply.
See Section 267(6), 267(6A) & 267(7) of the Duties Act 1997
To see if you qualify for an exemption answer some simple questions.
